Quotes!

Hello folks! Here comes what I'm sure you've been waiting for! Bam Bam Bam Baaaaaaaam! It's the....

SEAFARERS' FAVOURITE QUOTES!

"Ay,′ he said aloud. There is no translation for this word and perhaps it is just a noise such as a man might make, involuntarily, feeling the nail go through his hands and into the wood."

"Then the fish came alive, with his death in him, and rose high out of the water showing all his great length and width and all his power and his beauty. He seemed to hang in the air above the old man in the skiff. Then he fell into the water with a crash that sent spray over the old man and over all the skiff."

"To hell with luck. I'll bring the luck with me."

"You did not kill the fish only to keep alive and to sell for food, he thought. You killed him for pride and because you are a fisherman. You loved him when he was alive and you loved him after. If you love him, it is not a sin to kill him. Or is it more?"

"You are killing me, fish, the old man thought. But you have a right to. Never have I seen a greater, or more beautiful, or a calmer or more noble thing than you, brother. Come on and kill me. I do not care who kills who."

That was it! Watcha think? And I really sorry for a boring post with no pictures, but it seems this boat of a blog has suffered a hole, and it can't take the extra weight... technical problems, to put it straight.

By the way, I'll post some notes for our analysis of the book for the special interested to read. It'll be on the right hand side, under "pages", along with some other stuff.

Seafarers out!

Personal Reflections II

Hello folks! Jonathan, Seafarer One here. How's your day been? Caught any Marlins?
Anyway, to follow up on Ola's post, I thought I would write something about what I remember best from this wonderful reading experience. What did I like, and what did I not like?

First off, my overall evaluation of "The Old Man and the Sea" is very good indeed. The story has it all: Excitement, tension, love, pride, and even a little bit of blood-soaking action. I do not feel as Ola did, that it went a little bit slow at times. Well, I have to agree that it didn't really happen a whole lot, but I was nailed throughout the three hours it took me to read it.

The part I remember the best must be the time between the victory over the fish, and the return to the village. You see, it proves quite a challenge for the old man to get back with the Marlin in one piece, because of all the sharks attacking. At this point, I was totally sucked up in the excitement, and I also was convinced that the old man would be killed and eaten. I was prepared for this, though, and it seemed to me an enormous anti-climax when the old man actually ended up making it. So, if you ever read this book, be prepared for that, or you'll be dissapointed.

Well, I think that's most of what I have to say. For now, anyway. Keep your boats circling, and come by in a day or two for exciting updates!
Cya, mateys!

Personal Reflections

Marlin, which the old man catches

Okay guys, and girls, here come what you all have been waitin' for! This is Ola, seafarer number two and here's my personal reflections on "The Old Man and the Sea".

This book truly expresses an old man at the sea. You get to read about his struggles and "happy moments" throughout his life, or atleast the three days he's out fishin' for the great fish. I really like the way Hemingway writes, but the book  might advance a bit slowly. His struggle with the fish, allthough, is amazingly well written and really caught me. In conclusion; I think y'all should give this book a chance, as it's a classic and also pretty darn good.

Peace out, all ya' fella' seafarers!
